Fall brings the rains & prime trails

The temps have fallen and the rains are coming! The dirt here on Mt Ashland does well with the rais, the dirt tacks up and the dust will be gone.

So don’t miss out on some of the best riding of the season before the season is over. We are running shuttles at our regular scheduled times and have been adding to those during the week!

Timely Trail Work

After 2 MTB races and 3 months of sever use, Catwalk trail was becoming very rough. Braking bumps and ruts were in most of the corners and time was running out, the dirt was drying fast! So on Fathers day, 9 devoted Mountain Bikers, mostly Fathers with a Hall pass came out and helped smooth out the trail. The dirt was still very moist underneath the surface and we were able to make good progress. 6 hours later we had the trail dialed. A big thanks to all those that came out to give back to one of the trails we all love to ride!

On monday, 2 young lads from the Bay area in California we amped up for a big ride, something epic. I told them I was heading out on a big ride, to a trail no one had riden yet this year, but there would be some hiking involved to get there. They were game, but very concerned when I pulled my Crome backpack with my 14″ Stilh chainsaw out of the back of the Land Cruiser! They followed me anyway.

After riding around the peak that Time Warp is on and hiking for about 40 min. we arrived below the meadow area where the snow was finally melted away. We began down but only to be stopped every minuet or so by a downed tree, 9 in all, one so big that my little saw was going to be no match for it so it was left for another day, another saw.

When we got to the bottom Russ and Peter we Jazzed that they were the first ones this season to see Time Warp and pleased that they helped maintain a trail in a place they know they will return to ride.

Thanks for all the hard work from every one who came out this last weekend and Happy Trails!

Asland Mountain Challenge is a wrap.

Well it was a long, long, week of shuttling and setting up and organizing this event, but we got it done! Not without some snags, but all in all we are glad we could make it happen. We would first like to thank all the volenteeres that pitched in to help us with registration, timing and course marshal’s. I would also like to thanks Brandon from the Oregon super D series for helping get the start times dialed and Ed Garfield from OBRA for getting the timing handled.
Results can be found on www.obra.org under results and the Ashland Mountain Challenge.
Thanks to all who came to share this weekend with us and we hope you will be back soon to see and ride all the other trails this incredible Mountain has to offer!

To The Top !

I payed, I prayed and it melted!

2weeks ago there was up to 5′ of snow from the Ski Area for 2 miles on the upper Bull Gap rd,to the Lower Bull Gap trail head. I called Mt Ashland Ski and they brought out the Snow Cat and plowed 4′-5′ of snow for 2 miles! While it cost $600, they forgave another $700 and said that they wanted to see the race happen as much as any one and they made it happen!
The snow has melted and we are on coarse for the race and this weekends shuttles.
So get of the couch, load the bikes and gear, and get ready to shread some of the finest dirt Oregon has to offer!
See you on the Mountain!

Sprig Thaw MTB Race

This weekend is the Spring Thaw Mountain Bike Race, May 15th and 16th.
The Sun Gods have come out of the clouds and are warming things up nicely!
The XC course is the same as last year with a 2,000′ climb to a 12 mile fire road to 4 corners where they then enter the course for the DH and then continue what will be the lower half of the Super D in June…
You could say it has it all!

The DH is held on the Catwalk Trail, 1.5 miles of pump track on steroids! It starts with a techy little rock gaarden that then leads into the “Freeway” a tight left then begins the funest pump track style single track I’ve ride’n to date! If you stay off the brakes and carry momentum, pump every dip and nail every berm, you may need to take no more than a few pedal strokes until the dreadful up hill finish, about 150′ of sprint!

The good folks of S.O.M.B.A. (southern organ mountain bike association) Put this race on and do a dam fine job! It has that grassroots feel with a great vibe. Up to 200 racers, ranging from some of the local fast cats such as Nathan Riddle, Jared Hobbs and Josh Kahn to the course record holder Mark Weir, his team mates, Jason Moshler, Ben Cruz, Kenny Burt and other WTB hammers! Team Giant North Stars John Willson and crew, Team Thunder bringers from Chico and many other regional racers come here to enjoy some of Oregon’s finest trails!

Don’t miss out, load up and get out to one of the funnest MTB events Southern Oregon has to offer!
